Creating Your Personal Backyard Bar: Three Key Pieces For A Getaway

As you grow older, spending time at a bar becomes less and less attractive, but you still want to have a place where you can get together with friends and share a drink.  One of the best ways to do this is to turn part of your backyard into a small bar area where people will feel comfortable coming together to drink and have a good time.  While the interior of the home is good sometimes, you will find that moving the gathering outside will help to eliminate distractions and help all of you focus on spending time with each other.  There are three key things that you will need if you want to create the perfect backyard bar.

The Bar

First and foremost you will need a place from which to serve drinks.  The bar can be as large or as small as you want it, but there is no reason to go crazy with the size.  You really only need the bar because it is a convenient place to store all of the things that you will need to make drinks, and if you and your friends only drink very basic drinks, then an elaborate bar does not make sense.  For intimate gatherings of only two or three people you want the bar to be large enough for people to drink around, but this is not a concern if you are planning a gathering larger than that.  You also want to have some kind of covering over the bar, whether it be a roof or an umbrella, just to provide a little shade and some shelter from unexpected showers.

The Seating

The next thing that you need to look at for your bar is the seating.  Around the bar itself you should make sure that you have a couple of stools.  This gives your guests a place to sit while drinks are being made, and it is the best place to sit when the gathering is very small or when you are at home with your spouse.  A good stool should be high enough that when you sit on it you can easily rest your arms on the bar, while not being so high that you have to lean over to reach the bar.  It is also a good idea to get stools that have a footrest so you can have a comfortable place to put your feet if you are going to be sitting there for a long period.  You really need to make certain that you have regular chairs for people to sit on.  Stools are not good for group conversations, and if you want to have a place where you friends will want to visit again and again, you have to have chairs that will encourage conversation.

The Setting

Finally, you need to create the right atmosphere.  People should feel like they can leave their normal lives behind for a short period of time when they step into your backyard bar.  This is a place where worries and troubles can be put on the back burner while you and your friends spend some time in good company and good conversation.  For that reason it is essential that your backyard bar have a setting that is conducive to this goal.  A gazebo or a pergola is a terrific way to set off the bar area of the yard from the rest of the yard, and it helps to delineate where you want your guests to gather.  You can also accomplish this with the right decorations and accessories that go with your bar.

Setting up a backyard bar for your friends and family is a good way to have a good time with those that you care about.  With a backyard bar you can enjoy each other’s company and share a drink without the need to go to a bar or a club, and the experience will be much more rewarding.

I am Larry Bowen and two years ago we built a backyard bar.  Since then I have had a hard time getting my friends to leave, they enjoy the bar so much.  To see some of the options that are available I recommend checking out Bambooki, where I was able to get everything I needed for my own bar.
