Three ways to improve air quality in your home

Ahhh, fresh air, there is nothing like it.  With vehicle emissions and other modern air impacts, we expect outside air, especially in urban areas, to perhaps be bit a bit polluted but we take it for granted that within our homes the air is clean and fresh.  Studies have found that this is not always true.  In fact, there has been an increase in the number of people living with allergies.  Some of it is linked to the freshness of the air, or the lack of it, inside the home or workplace.

Home is where the heart is, as the old saying goes, and it should also be where the health is.  Improving air quality is one aspect of creating a happy, healthy home environment.  It is one of the simplest ways to take better care of yourself and your family.  If you have been thinking about ways to be healthier and more comfortable at home, consider improving your indoor air quality by:

  1. Installing new seals around windows
  2. Installing a new fireplace
  3. Installing large floor plants

Installing new seals around windows

If a draft can be felt from a window, which means it is not well sealed.  We do not really think about it until it gets a bit frigid and we feel the cold air seeping in.  Just as sure as that icy air can seep in from outside, outdoor dust particles and debris can get in too. Though these micro particles are invisible to the human eye, or appear to us uniformly as dust, they are doing more than just laying around dormant until you sweep or vacuum. They are also floating in the air impacting the quality and breathability for your household. It is best to check every window in your house.  This is a simple upgrade that can improve the quality of air in your home and boost your home’s energy efficiency too.

Installing a new fireplace

An old fireplace may look quaint and inviting but the pollutants seeping into the air due to poor ventilation or a closure that is antiquated or well-worn could be impacting the air quality in your home.  The soot from fires may be easy to see once the wood burns low and you look in the fireplace but some of it floats out into the air through smoke.  Without updated and modern ventilation technical installations, this could possibly be impacting how clean the air is in your home.  To make sure you are enjoying the warm and relaxation of your fire without breathing in unhealthy additional particles and fumes is to install a new fireplace that has been designed and manufactured for beautiful aesthetics and the functional benefits, which includes fresh air.

Installing large floor plants

Just as green vegetables are good to eat, green plants are excellent for external health.  They are relaxing to look at and provide air quality improvements as well.  There are many different species of green plants. Some require low light others need lots of light. Some can be watered sparingly and others require lots of water.  So whether you have a green thumb or would tend to forget about watering your plants on a regular basis, there is an option for you.  There are many different kinds of air cleaning plants so check with your local nursery to make this additional improvement to the air quality in your home.
